I'm just a girl living my glittery, girly, glamorous life but I happen to be chronically ill. Type 1 Diabetes is a BIG part of my life. If you are reading this, most likely you are diabetic too- after all my website and Instagram are mostly diabetes focused. I am really thankful that through my persona Glitter Glucose, I am able to share every aspect of my life. Like I always say, Diabetes is a part of me but NOT all of me. That leads me to this post here!

I post on my Instagram through photos and Instagram stories daily. No matter what I am talking about, I will ALWAYS get a message asking me about my hair! Its common for diabetics to struggle with hair growth and hair health so I thought I would share what works for me! Here is EVERY SINGLE DETAIL of what makes my hair look the way it does!

washing

First things first! Not only is it important to find a shampoo/conditioner combo that fit your needs, but the way you wash your hair is equally important.
  • I shampoo only my scalp! I lather up and massage my scalp without touching much else of my hair. Shampoo will run down to my ends but no need to actually scrub and lather anything bedsides my scalp.
  • I pretend as though I am wearing my hair in a low ponytail. I only condition from the "ponytail" down. My natural oils will give moisture to my scalp. Adding conditioner to the scalp will only weigh it down.
  • I shampoo/condition as soon as I get in the shower. That way I can apply conditioner and leave it in throughout most of my shower.
I personally love Redken All Soft. I have been using this combo for so many YEARS! -------->

leave-in conditioner

I never go without leave-in conditioner!
  • After lightly towel drying my hair, I spray It's a 10 Leave- In Conditioner then detangle with a wide tooth comb. I NEVER use a brush!

styling

Once my hair is dry, whether it air drys or I use a blowdryer, I usually curl my hair. The number 1 question I get is what curling iron I use. Well luckily, it is not expensive! I swear by this curling iron. Even though it has a clip, I use it as a wand. I open the clip, wrap the hair around like a wand, then close the clip. 1inch is how I achieve my curls. After I'm done, I flip my head upside down and run my fingers through to separate the curls! You can get it at Walmart! Click HERE to buy!
I hope this answers any questions you have about my hair care routine! If you have any other questions please let me know!

XO,
P

Love these tips! Thank you!! I’m going to try it. Your curls are so pretty! It would be great if you could do a make up tutorial too. 🙂

Love itttt! I love that your go-to look is curls. I've been the same way forever and started curling my hair since I was like, 8 haha.

Do you use any product to help your curls stay? Like a moose or spray of some type?

Nope! Just the products listed. No hairspray no mousse.

For your hair do you take vitamins at all? Or even just plain ole vitamins for your general health? I just started taking hair and nails vitamins to try and help with my hair loss. It’s only been 3 weeks, so we’ll see how it goes. It seems after I had my baby my hair was coming out in chunks, and then I also got a really bad case of trigger finger(s) in both my hands 😩. Weird....I know us T1s are susceptible to these things, but it happened so fast after having my son.
