Let’s talk! I am a full-time blogger/influencer. There can often be a stigma around the idea. I get it. It’s a new thing… well actually, it isn’t. The WORD “influencer” is new, but the concept of an influencer isn’t new. Before influencers were celebrities, food critics, people in power. Now people of any background can build their audience, build relationships and become influencers in their own right. Why do people hate on influencers? Often there can be a lack of respect for the influencer industry. I have a theory why. Anyone, and mostly everyone does have social media accounts. Here is an example: Anna has an Instagram account, she posts every day, she makes friends, she spends hours scrolling- but she doesn’t make any money. Paloma has an Instagram, she posts every day, she makes friends, she spends hours scrolling- but she does make money. Comparing the situation to an artist. You look at an artist’s painting and think “wow, I could never do that.” It makes sense that the artist would get paid for their work. You look at an influencer account and see their photos and think “Well I could do that. I actually do that every single day! Why don't I get paid?” Truth is, it takes alot more work than just posting a pretty picture. Think of the Kardashians. People say they have no talent, they don’t do anything except be themselves and make millions. If it were really that easy to make money from being yourself, anyone could be a millionaire. Truth is, it’s not that easy. It takes WORK to get people to follow you. It takes work to keep people entertained. It takes work to get brand deals. It takes work to create content. If you think you can do it, go for it. That is the beauty of social media. Being able to build your own audience is a powerful thing. It can launch anybody to reach their dreams, but the work has to be put in. For myself, I feel really lucky. I think I have built myself such a pretty little corner of the world filled with the best people! My followers are my friends. We laugh together. We vent. We share “me too’s!” My friends actually get really excited when a big brand gives me the honor of representing them. It is like a win for all of us. It thrusts me into the spotlight and reaches audiences that might not know about diabetes. Because of my platform, I am able to show the world that people with diabetes are just people. We eat, breathe, shop, dream just like everyone else. I am honored that I have this role. I do not take it for granted and it is my mission to break the stigma of living with a chronic illness. So, thank you to everyone who follows me. Your trust means THE WORLD to me. Transparency I want to share the complete list of brands that I work with in case there is any doubt of non-transparency. I know this sounds so cliché, but I really only work with brands that I love. It is more like an honor for me to love a brand then become a spokesperson. I don’t represent every little gizmo and gadget that comes with a promo code. Below is a list broken into 4 categories. Long term sponsorships, affiliate partners, occasional partners and free product exchange. There are plenty of other brands I’ve worked with in the past or have done single posts for but below is who I currently work with consistently. Long-term Partnerships This means I am under a long-term contract to represent the brand throughout the contract terms. I get paid to represent them, NOT per sale.
Affiliate Partners Being an affiliate means I do NOT get paid to post a photo of their product. The company gives me a promo code which I share with you. If you use that code, I will make a small commission. It does not cost you any extra. It actually benefits you, me and the company. You find out about it through me, you get a discount, I get a commission and the company makes a sale.
Periodically work with
Free Product Dermalogica- I am a HUGE fan of Dermalogica. I have never been paid by them, but I do receive free product which feels like Christmas to me. I would be purchasing it anyway so it makes sense for me to post about it in exchange for product. Dream Collaborations
I hope this helps you better understand the “influencer” world. I am really just a girl who puts it all out there online. I share the good and bad and I love making connections with you. I have no gray area when it comes to what I post. I either LOVE it or don’t share it. Thank you for trusting me to be a reliable source for product recommendations. Glitter Glucose is about ALOT more than products. The products just happen to be what brings in income and helps me keep my brand alive. Xoxo
